MODELING CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS
Types of Fashion Modeling:
CATALOG - Modeling clothing for catalogs.
EDITORIAL - Modeling for editorial pages (not advertisements) in magazines.
FITNESS - Modeling of fitness attire and for fitness products. Requires that the model be in excellent shape and health.
KIDS - Children modeling children\'s clothing.
LINGERIE - Modeling of lingerie and undergarments.
Because this type of modeling may be more revealing it requires very good body tone and proportions.

MATURE - Modeling of clothing for those over the age of 40+.
PRINT - Modeling fashion for print advertising.
PETITE - Petite size models usually are 5\'2\" to 5\'6\".
PLUS SIZE - Plus size is the same height as standard size models but size 14 - 22.
RUNWAY - The presentation of clothing to a gathering of buyers by sending models down a walkway or runway. Models generally have to meet very strict requirements for this type of work. These young models tend to be very tall, slender and move very well in clothes.
SPOKESMODEL - In addition to appearance, spokesmodels must speak about a business, product, service, etc. Spokesmodels may attend trade shows, appear on television, appear in videos, etc.
SWIMSUIT - Modeling of swimwear. Generally requires excellent body tone and a healthy look.

TEEN - Modeling of fashion for those in their early teens.
Commercial Modeling -
Commercial modeling is sort of the catch all for everything that isn\'t fashion. It is vast and diverse. The physical requirements can vary greatly. The purpose is to sell something - a product, service, or idea. You do not have to have traditional \"model\" looks. Real people are more often used for commercial modeling.
PRINT - Models are used in photos showing a period of life or doing something in life.
The models are used to act out some concept or idea of life. The physical requirements, age, size, etc. can vary greatly. Actors are often used for commercial print modeling.
PRODUCT DEMO - Models stand in front of, or in a store or mall, and hand out free samples of something.
The idea is they want someone attractive that people will be drawn to and will work for just a few hours or a few days.
PROMO - The model is used to work promotional events. Beer companies, cigarette companies, etc. often hire models to promote their products. Generally, you need to be very attractive to do this kind of work, but this is not always the case.

As a model, the best way to increase your chances for success is to evaluate yourself as a model properly and target that specific part of the market that best fits your features.

The two most popular and obvious types of models (and market sections) are "fashion" and "glamour" models (markets). Both have very well-defined specifications and requirements, that, unlike most models want to believe, are completely different from each other. And also the way those two markets operate is completely different - real fashion clients only work through agencies.

A common mistake most models make is aiming at the "high-fashion" market, without meeting the criteria or knowing what "high" fashion even means. Even though when you hear "model" you don't think of a Harvard graduate, most of the successful models are extremely smart and well educated. Always research and be realistic! Even though Kate Moss is just 5'7", she should not be your guide-star. The industry rarely makes exceptions. All model markets are very profitable and if you just stay on the realistic side there should not be a reason not to succeed.
